The lake Svetloyar in the village of Vladimirskoye in Voskresensk area – where the festival of folk arts "The City of Kitezh is the Soul of Russia" is held – is one of the most mysterious aquatic sites of Russia.

Experts still have not reached the common opinion on the origin of the lake that has almost perfect oval shape and is filled with very clean water. According to a legend, at the bottom of the lake the mysterious city of Kitezh is hidden, it went under water together with its citizens to escape from enemy invasion.

Wrapped in aura of mystery the lake emanates special energy, no wonder it is the place of pilgrimage for believers.

Today Svetloyar is one of the centers of spiritual and cultural life of Russia, the preservation of true cultural and historical traditions is one of the objectives of the event.

The festival includes cross procession to the lake Svetloyar. At the territory of history and art museum the exhibition "The Art of Contemporary Ceramics" will open, the secrets of pottery may be learned at the master classes.

During the day performances by folk ensembles, exhibition and sale of items of folk crafts, chess tournament will be held.

The exhibition hall "Kitezh Rus" will present photo-pictures on the theme "Reserved nature of Voskresensk Povetluzhye". The festival will be completed by musical performance and "Kitezh bells’ ringing" – the procession with candles around the lake.
